• in - в
• on - на

At и in
Оба этих предлога обычно имеют значение "в". Однако at обычно обозначает общее положение, а также используется перед названиями небольших населенных пунктов, тогда как in скорее имеет оттенок значения "внутри чего-либо" и ставится перед названиями стран и крупных городов. Рассмотрим следующие предложения:

At употребляется с:

а) временем at ten o'clock, at midnight
b) временем приема пищи at breakfast
с) религиозными праздниками at Christmas, at Easter

Предлог by употребляется с большинством существительных, обозначающих средства передвижения, когда мы говорим о транспортном средстве в общем:

• I always go to work by car.
• It's quicker to go to Birmingham by train, you know.
• When the weather's good, mote people travel by bike.
  

Предлог in употребляется в сочетании с местоимениями my/your или артиклем the, когда мы говорим о какой-то конкретной машине, фургоне, вагоне, грузовом автомобиле, такси или машине скорой помощи:

• We all went to the party in Jim's car.
• You haven't been in my new car, have you?
• They went to hospital in the ambulance. I followed in the car.

At употребляется, когда мы говорим:

а) о конкретном месте:

• We waited at the bus stop for ages.
• Neil wasn't at work. I think he's ill.
• Let's stay at home tonight.

b) о точном адресе:

• She lives at 5, Regent Street

• We met at university in 1985.

IN

Use 'in' months and years and periods of time:

• in January
• in 1978
• in the twenties

Use 'in' a period of time in the future:

• in a few weeks
• in a couple of days

AT

Use 'at' with precise time:

• at six o'clock
• at 10.30
• at two p.m.

ON

Use 'on' with days of the week:

• on Monday
• on Fridays

Use 'on' with specific calendar days:

• on Christmas day
• on October 22nd

How to use IN ON AT in expressions of time

In подразумевает нахождения объекта в больших пространствах – страны, районы, большие города и т. д. и в трехмерном пространстве (когда объект огражден со всех сторон). At чаще употребляется по отношении к малым и незначительным объектам, таким как деревни, маленькие города и т. д.
