As for me, I didn't like his music, because I don't really listen POP music. I like trance, ambient, some melodic metal and alternative rock. But pop music isn't really for me :) So, I heard MJ only on radio. And I don't reaaly know about the stories with children, but saw a lot of parodies, for example, in South Park :)

His music is not just a pop music! He wrote in r&b, soul, funk. His "You are not alone" is a standart of r&b. And 4-th place in Billboard Hot 100 (http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Hot_100) after The Beatles, M. Carry and Elvis is fact. U're right Solp, for me he's a funk singer. As a child I wasn't avid fan of MJ, I tasted his music 2-3 years ago, that was really yummy :)
Exion u have to try his Triller and Bad. He was in Motown and this label doesn't release sort of crap. The entire artists are fantastic, black music, indeed.

I have never been an admirer of Michael Jackson, the same time I sympathize with all his admirers.

I liked several song by him and his moonwalk, of course =). It's a pity that fact that Michael wanted (I think) to suit some standards born in the society and had changed his appearance because of it.

In my opinion, Michael Jackson was primarily a flamboyant entertainer/dancer who knew how to attract/shock the crowds, wherever he performed! I do not feel, though, that he sang well..at least not to my ears! I prefer to listen to his sister Janet sing!

Shock the crowds? Yes! But he did it very sincerely! I visited his show in Tallin in 2000 - he fairly worked for 2 hours and there was no doubt he did that with... love! Lately i found out that it was he who wrote "We are the world" (with Lionel Richie)! The song that performed with many misic stars to help African children. It's still a great song! Like more his other songs as well...

He must have had many talents to have achieved such stardom, and to be so admired by loyal fans , I admit! My only problem was that I could not enjoy his singing, even though I tried to learn to enjoy his music. It just never happened for me! I believe his style of vocalization appealed more to younger generations of people than to my generation.

well, the truth is that i'm not a big fun of him....but i really respect him, cause he was a great singer, dancer and actor..(we could say that too cause his video clips was awesome) he had a great voice and no matter what he did or not he become the king of pop, soul, funk...etc..
moreover he had great songs like "beat it", "bad", "smooth criminal", "thriller", "Billie Jean"..etc...
