Job and Education
Is it suitable and reasonable to study and work simultaneously. I mean the first higher education. Or it's much more efficient to concentrate on the learning process and only after the graduation to find a job.
Please share your ideas.

I used to work and study together so I know how difficult it is. But our modern life makes us do so. Though I am acquainted with those who believe that "education goes first", and to do well at the university you MUST NOT work. It holds some truth - I know a few people that were expelled for having poor progress. But on the other hand people that are used to working and studing now (and manage to do both things well) will be more successful in their future life. And a little money is never superfluous)

Hi:)
Many people think that working interrupts studying but I don't agree with them. I started working when I was at second course and I graduated from the university with honours. So I support students who start working when they are studying at university. If you can combine working with studying you will adapt quickly to life))

Thanks a lot for your opinions! I do believe as well, that it's possibe to combine studing and working. More over I have such an experience for 2 years and find myself rather successful person.

Does someone disagree? It's very interesting to see this problem from the other side )

I don’t know of ideas but I can share with you my own experience.
In 1969 I entered the Odessa Higher Engineering Marine School as soon as I got demobilized after national service. I returned to my work simultaneously and continued it on.

I should say it was very difficult to learn by correspondence and the same time to work. There was even a moment in my life when I hesitated whether I should continue my learning or not. I was already married and had a little child. The life of my family depended on my low salary.

The same time I pondered: really I am more stupid than my friends whom I am learning with?! I drove those bad thought away and learnt on. Some years later, in 1975, I defended my degree work with an excellent mark and got a profession of a ship engineer.

I’d like to add that it would be much better to learn before service in the military forces, when your memory is young and fresh and your brain absorb the knowledge like a sponge. But… it is never too late to learn!

It's a brilliant thought. I really appreciate it! Thank you!

Working makes study much more desirable and helps organize one's daily routine, besides working contributes to experience which most day-time students are lacking.

I fully agree with you, Eksena! While working you understand how it's easy just to study. But, unfortunately, the most students are not able to get any experience if they have decided not to work till graduation.
eksena, 326 days ago 0
That's their own business, I suppose :)

Sure, but some students really believe that if they are focusing on university now they'll get more profit in future. One from thousand will, but the rest will be disappointed.

One man's meat is another man's poison.

People are really very different; so, paraphrasing: one man's success is another man's failure.
You started this discussion because, deep in heart, you will to combine work and study, other people may not be able to do it. Let them go their own way. )

with best wishes

I think it's better to try some types of jobs before you graduate the institute. And it's also good to build a team and try your own business while you are studing.

When I was a student at the University I found it necessary to work weekends to meet my personal expenses. This made it difficult to find time for studies, but it can be done. Also, the University required that each engineering student work in engineering related work every summer recess. In this manner, one became experienced in one's intended future field of work , well in advance of graduation. I agree with Poseidon's remark about completing one's studies before undertaking one's military obligations. I recall that those whose studies were interrupted by several years of military service found it extremely difficult to get back in their groove later back at the University. I also support eksena's observations that each person is different! Perhaps you are that individual who can successfully combine work with studies!

In my opinion, education must be of vital importence, especially, when it is your fists higher school or other higher education establishments. It is great when you have an opportunity to work, but work must not be make damage to your learn. You will be understanding it when you start work after graduating from university.

Personally, It was very difficult to adapt to university life after school, I would say, extremely hard.. So I don't even think about working and studying simultaneously. More over, I've begun learning english now... Thus, I must coping with increased academic load. I'll wait some more time to see how I'll be managing with this.

Cool but it's not quite correct (I think)
Poseidon, 302 days ago 0
To what post does yours one relate, Nastya_dog? What is cool and what isn't correct?

I like the topic. I like all topics, connected with education because this year I`m entering the academy.
Well...I`m going to have full-time tuition, because I don`t want to study for 6 years and the academy I want to enter does not give opportunity to have tuition by correspondence. But even during these 5 years I`ll have to practice. And that is will be my work during the tuition.
But if I have to have tuition by correspondence , I definitely would go to work...
So, I discern two sides of the question and both for them are suitable for me.

Oh, Poseidon, thanks for support)Believe in me)

P.S. There`s a mistake : I like all topics, connected with education because NEXT year I`m entering the academy.

I think it depends on your education load. If you have enough free time and your job doesn`t oppose to study, than you could to work. When you have a job, you more appreciate free time.
But sometimes I think may be better to study only, for example today, 1 January, when I have woken up at 7 a.m. and have gone to work:(

Happy New year to you, corsac! I hope your work on holiday will be paid double!
corsac, 250 days ago 0
Thanks, Poseidon. Unfortunately, the payment is the same as usually:(
I wish you Happy New Year too)

Thank you, corsac. Keep your chin up!
